Hi.. I'm sorry for the late reply. I've just opened my account.. Well, there's really no evidence in the gospel accounts that Jesus verbally spoke in tongues but He spoke about it in days to come after His resurrection in Mark 16:17 (found in some manuscripts).
With regards to Paul's statement, we shouldn't take it out of its context. We should consider that Paul commended speaking in tongues in the flow of his thoughts while discussing spiritual gifts and order in the church. He said that, "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself." Edification in the spiritual life of an individual is very necessary.
Thanks for your comment!! May we all grow in the knowledge of Christ and learn from each other. God bless!!
